Who Is Kyle Handy

Have you ever wondered if there’s MORE to life?  That there is something BIG out there waiting for you or you have something burning inside of you to inspire and make an impact?

Well, my name is Kyle Handy, and that was me back in 2013 as I sat behind the desk in my model home office waiting for the next buyer to come walking through.

As an outsider looking in, my life seemed pretty good. Good job, beautiful house, nice car, amazing wife but career-wise, I was stuck. It drove me crazy waking up each morning to work on someone else’s schedule and someone else’s dream; being stuck at an office 12 hours a day, including nights and weekends was not how I wanted to spend the rest of my life until I was 65.

At the end of 2013, my wife and I spoke and decided it was time for me to do something great and start my career in general real estate. I had no kids at the time, I was 27, and I figured if I was going to create my ideal life, now is the time to do it.

After reading Robert Kiyosaki’s book, Rich Dad Poor Dad, my mind and vision of what was possible completely changed, and I started thinking very differently about being an Employee vs. an Entrepreneur! It brought me back to a way of thinking from my younger years when I had started multiple online businesses selling items on eBay and making more money at the age of 14 than some adults made at the time.

So I began my career in real estate as a real estate brokerage owner. I created an LLC, paid a sponsoring broker to allow me to use their license, and away I went. Handy Realty was founded. I started by focusing on doing deals as an agent primarily and building my brokerage second.

I became one of the top agents in my local market. That led to agents knowing who I was, and growing the brokerage became easier. Finally, I was doing so much business on my own that I needed to start a team to assist with my transactions and the leads I was generating. Thus, The Handy Team was formed, and growth continued.

Again, everything seemed to be going great, but there was still something missing in my business life.

Then, in April of 2017, a friend of mine called me up and told me to meet him for lunch to discuss a real estate brokerage opportunity, called eXp Realty.

I’ll admit, when I took the meeting, it was mostly me trying to be kind to my friend and maybe get some strategies that I could instill in my brokerage. But something happened at that meeting that ultimately made me rethink EVERYTHING. As my friend went through his presentation, he talked about splits and caps, training and systems, tools and marketing, but then he said something that I won’t forget. He said, “eXp is not just a real estate brokerage; it’s also a platform for real estate agents to grow a business within a business.” Well, now he had my attention.

The more I dug into the business model, the more I liked it. It was everything I was trying to do on my own but with one huge difference. LEVERAGE! Up until this point, my business had grown mostly from my efforts. I had little focus on empowering and leveraging others to help.

It goes back to the famous John D. Rockefeller saying, “I would rather earn 1% of 100 people’s efforts, than 100% of my own.” It was at this point that I realized I hadn’t built a BUSINESS, I had created a JOB. Then I thought if my crazy friend could earn the kind of money I was looking for in 2 years and I’m slaving away 12 hours a day for the last three years doing the same thing but only making 1/3 of what he was. I’m in!

Building a Real Business That Fit’s My Life

After I joined, I spent the first six months onboarding my team, my agents, and myself into a whole new world. I attended events, watched webinars, talked to other agents and brokers, and of course, was still very deep in the real estate buyer/seller game. But in the background, I was forming a plan of how I would build my business and help those around me do the same. 

I saw eXp agents doing things in all sorts of ways. Doing presentations six nights a week, sending out mass emails, and cold calling thousands of agents, all while trying to balance everything else.

I realized very quickly that I was going to do things differently. Both for myself and for those I team up with. I didn’t want to chase business; I wanted to attract it! And I knew that the best way to attract people is to provide them a ton of VALUE.

Taking My Business Online

Another aspect that attracted me to eXp was the ability to grow business across the US and even internationally in Canada. One of the things I like to do the most is to travel with my family. When I was running my real estate brokerage, I found very little time that I could leave for a few days, let alone a week or more. With this business, I can work from anywhere at any time (both from an attraction standpoint, and my actual real estate sales business). This freedom was precisely what I was looking for.

So now I’ve decided that I’m going to build a business around creating value and doing it online. Perfect! How do you start? That’s what I set out to learn, and man is Google helpful! It took me around three months to get a sound system up and going, but once I found my strategy and committed to making it work, some amazing things have started to happen.

I started attracting 1-3 New Agents Each Week. I built an online team training site for our team (I didn’t have to sit down and train one-on-one anymore). This site provided significant leverage for our team. I started to get more qualified prospects reaching out to me wanting to join my business

Having the right mix of offline and online marketing for the team has BOOSTED our results, and as a leader, in this industry, I believe it’s our job to embrace the changes in technology with Social Media being one of our most significant Networking Assets!

What is Kyle Handy Up To Today?

I am so blessed and humbled by the direction my life has come. I just turned 35 years young, and I’m FREE! It’s taken me the better part of the last ten years to get to where I am today, but I have something that most people don’t have. Complete Time Freedom!

I still work hard, but it’s because I love what I do and the people I work with, so it doesn’t feel like work. I wouldn’t trade the ups and downs of owning my business and being an entrepreneur for anything. I’m replacing my JOB income, where I had to trade time for dollars, to a RESIDUAL paycheck that grows larger each month, and I rarely have to look at price tags…

I get to enjoy every day with my best friend and the love of my life, Krissi Handy. I also get to spend every day with my two little kiddos, Addison and Christian, raising them to be little entrepreneurs of the world!
