What Kind of Laptop Should You Get As A Realtor?
Real estate agents often have a lot of different tasks and responsibilities that they need to handle daily. These tasks range from managing listings and communicating with clients to researching and marketing properties. To handle all of these tasks efficiently and effectively, real estate agents need a laptop that meets their needs and is well-suited for their work.
Some key factors to consider when choosing a laptop for real estate work include the following:
- Processor speed: For tasks such as emailing, web browsing, and general office work, a processor with a speed of at least 2.0 GHz is generally sufficient. However, if you plan on doing more resource-intensive tasks such as video editing or 3D rendering, you may want to consider a laptop with a faster processor.
- Memory: Real estate agents should look for laptops with at least 8 GB of RAM. This will allow you to run multiple programs simultaneously without experiencing any lag.
- Storage: Real estate agents may need to store many photos and videos, so choosing a laptop with sufficient storage space is essential. A laptop with at least 256 GB of storage should be sufficient for most agents.
- Portability: If you are often on the go and need a laptop that is easy to carry around, you should consider a lightweight laptop or a 2-in-1 device that can be used as both a laptop and a tablet.
- Display: A laptop with a high-resolution display will make it easier to view photos and videos, so this is an important consideration for real estate agents.
- Battery life: Choosing a laptop with long battery life is essential, primarily if you often work on the go. A laptop with at least 8 hours of battery life should be sufficient for most real estate agents.
Ultimately, the best laptop for a real estate agent will depend on their specific needs and work type. It is essential to carefully consider your needs and priorities when choosing a laptop to ensure that you get a device that meets your needs and helps you work effectively.

FAQs on Best Laptops for Real Estate Agents
What laptops should real estate agents avoid?
Gaming or entertainment laptops are not the best laptops for real estate agents. They tend to be heavy, bulky, and with low battery life. While they may be great for a gaming system, a lot of power is taken up by a heavy-duty video card that you will not need. At the other end of the spectrum, lightweight “Chromebooks” or “Netbooks” usually aren’t going to have either the processing power or memory that a real estate agent wants – and they’re going to require an always-on WiFi signal, which isn’t always realistic, especially when dealing with rural listings. That said, some Chromebooks (such as the C201) make excellent “secondary devices,” especially for those who already have a desktop at home.
What’s the difference between processing power, memory, and hard drive space?
Think of processing power as the ability to think quickly, memory as the ability to retain short-term memory, and hard drive space as the ability to retain long-term memory. When you run a program, the speed at which it runs is controlled by both processing power and memory. When you save files, the number of files you can save relates to the hard drive. Many real estate agents will need decent power, memory, and hard drive space. Apart from this, you’ll also need decent battery life — or bring a battery backup.
Do you need an SSD?
An SSD is a solid-state drive. SSDs make files load faster, the operating system runs faster, and programs operate more smoothly. At the same time, an SSD may also break down faster than a traditional drive. An SSD is also usually smaller in capacity than a regular hard drive and more expensive, so you get what you pay for. You generally don’t “need” an SSD, but if power and speed are essential to you, an SSD can help.
Should a real estate agent have a Mac or a PC?
Both Macs and PCs are great for real estate agents. Macs have more onboard utilities for file editing, such as video editing and photo editing; this makes it ideal for those who manage their home staging, photography, and videos. PCs tend to be a little more affordable and flexible, and some great multimedia software systems are still available. Today, the difference between a Mac and a PC is far less pronounced than in the past; most utilities are available for either. So, you can choose whichever is most comfortable for you.
Is a tablet sufficient, or should you have a laptop?
Tablets such as the Apple iPad Pro can be extremely powerful – even more powerful than some of the best laptops for real estate agents. But the format is different. Rather than clicking, you’ll find yourself tapping and swiping. You need to dock into a keyboard if you want to type easily. It depends on how you use your device. Some Realtors get by with a tablet alone; others need a laptop to feel like they can function.
Should a real estate agent have biometric identification?
Many modern tablets and laptops come with fingerprint scanners. It’s not essential, but it can be nice. Real estate agents have a significant amount of personal information on their computers, including financial information from their clients, financial information, and personally identifiable information. Biometric identification protects you if your device itself is stolen.
