The 10 Best Laptops For Real Estate Agents in 2021

As a real estate agent, you’re probably pretty computer savvy. According to the stats, most agents spend anywhere from a few hours a week to a few hours a day marketing online. Real estate agents also spend their time moving between the office, showings, meetings, and networking opportunities. And that necessitates a reliable, portable laptop. In this post, I’ll share some of the best laptops for real estate agents in 2021.

What Kind of Laptop Should You Get As A Realtor?

Most real estate agents don’t need to do a lot of heavy processing on their laptop. But they need to have decent photo and video capabilities, fast internet connections, portability, battery life, and general ease of use.

Prospecting, lead generation, online marketing, listings – all these things require that you have the technology to back it up. But laptop technology is more flexible than ever. There’s no single best laptop for real estate agents; it depends on your own needs.

In the last few years, the entire laptop market has changed. There are highly portable tablet-style laptops, 2-in-1 laptop tablets, and lightweight Chromebooks. It all depends on what you need. If you want to do a lot of video editing, you need a high-powered (and heavier) laptop. If you need a device that helps you when you’re on the go, you might want a lightweight 2-in-1. And all that changes if you already have a tablet and a desktop PC.

10 Best Laptops For Real Estate Agents

1. Microsoft Surface Pro

Microsoft Surface Pro 7 – 12.3" Touch-Screen
$970.68

Next gen, best in class laptop with the versatility of a studio and tablet, so you can type, touch, draw, write, work, and play more naturally. Faster than surface pro 6, with a 10th gen intel core processor.

10/15/2021 05:53 pm GMT
  • Pros: A portable, powerful, and lightweight laptop that features a longer battery life.
  • Cons: It’s not a true laptop; it can be awkward to use the keyboard on your lap or while on the go. It also has a small screen size.
  • Best For: Those who want a complete laptop, tablet, and even desktop solution, provided the right docking setup.

The Microsoft Surface Pro is a hybrid between a laptop and a tablet – and it’s a very popular choice for one of the best laptops for real estate agents for that reason. The Surface Pro 7 has a 3rd generation Intel i5 processor, Intel UHD graphics (upgradeable to Intel Iris), 4GB of RAM, WiFi, and Bluetooth. It can be used in either tablet mode or laptop, depending on what you need. It has a crystal-clear 10.6-inch high-resolution touch screen display and built-in cameras. The rear-facing camera is 8 megapixels while the front-facing camera is 5 megapixels.

There are some major advantages to the hybrid format of the Microsoft Surface Pro. You can use it on the fly to record videos and photographs of home listings. You can dock it to write up the listing itself. It has all the power of a laptop with the small, lightweight form factor of a tablet. It can even fit snugly in a purse or a small briefcase. But you do need to dock it into a keyboard for use.

Perhaps most importantly, the battery life of the Microsoft Surface Pro is up to 10 hours. The new Microsoft Surface Pro is said to have a battery life of 15 hours. That means you can take the Surface Pro with you and use it all day, without having to go back to your home office. This can make or break a busy day for real estate agents.

The Microsoft Surface Pro is one of the best laptops for real estate agents because it has advantages over traditional tablets. It is a Microsoft OS system and can be used to run any applications that could be run on Windows 10 computers. So, you can use everything from Office 365 to programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere, rather than relying on something like Android applications.

2. Asus ZenBook

ASUS ZenBook Duo UX481 14”
$1,699.99

The ASUS ZenBook Duo UX481 laptop delivers performance and versatility for digital creators, combining innovative features and a customizable display to create the perfect workstation. Ideal for both work and play, this ergonomic laptop features a 10th Gen Intel Core i7 processor and 512 GB SSD for blazing-fast load speeds and storage.

10/15/2021 05:54 pm GMT
  • Pros: Powerful graphics, great screen, an attractive backlit keyboard, and long battery life of up to 14 hours.
  • Cons: No fingerprint sensor and a low-quality camera.
  • Best For: Those who are looking for a good all-around mid-range laptop that can also operate as a tablet.

The Asus ZenBook is a slick-looking, lightweight, and flexible touch screen system. It’s a 2-in-1 system that can be used as both a laptop or a tablet, though it’s really more a laptop that has a flippable touchscreen. It’s both thin and durable, which means it’s something that you can use while on the go. And it has decent specs, so you can use it as an all-around computer once you get to the office.

The Asus ZenBook can be customized to your needs. The 14” version of it comes with an Intel Core i7 processor or a Core i5. Both the Core i7 and Core i5 are powerful enough for most applications; other Asus systems use the AMD Ryzen. It can either have a Nvidia GeForce graphics card or an onboard Integrated Intel graphics system; the Nvidia GeForce is best for gaming and video editing. It comes with 8 GB RAM but it can be upgraded to 16GB. The keyboard is backlit and the system boasts up to 14 hours of battery life. There are also 13” versions for those who want an even smaller system.

Are there some negatives to the Asus ZenBook? Some are disappointed that the ZenBook doesn’t have a fingerprint sensor. The camera also leaves something to be desired, especially compared to systems such as the Microsoft Surface Pro. Asus also doesn’t have a great reputation for building durable, lasting products – but the Asus ZenBook itself has garnered positive reviews. For this reason, it’s a good choice for one of the best laptops for real estate agents.

3. Lenovo Flex

Lenovo Flex 5 14" 2-in-1 Laptop
$699.00

Thin, light, and stylish – This 2-in-1 laptop weighs just 3.64 pounds and is only 0.82" thick. It's soft and comfortable to the touch, with a durable paint that creates a better user experience. Digital pen included.

10/15/2021 05:54 pm GMT
  • Pros: A 2-in-1 convertible laptop, fast processor, 10-hour battery life, and premium features such as Pen and Windows Ink.
  • Cons: Heavy for a 2-in-1 device, slightly dim display, especially compared to a retina display.
  • Best For: Those who want a powerful machine for at-home, in-office, and out-of-office use.

The Flex is a 14-inch 2-in-1 laptop model, much like the Asus Zenbook. It’s thin, small, and backed with a fast Intel Core i5 processor and Intel UHD graphics. Like other 2-in-1 displays, it has a 360-degree hinge that turns it from laptop mode to tablet mode. It’s great for real estate professionals; you can use the tablet mode while on the go and then switch to the laptop mode while you’re in the office.

Other features include Pen & Windows Ink, which can make it easier to edit photos and videos for your listings. The Flex laptop has up to 10 hours of battery life, making it an excellent contender for an on-the-go laptop. And only 15 minutes of charging can give it another 2 hours of battery life, making it easy to pop into the office for a recharge.

Further, sound and video run very well on the Flex, making it a great multimedia machine for presentations, video editing, and review, and just relaxation. The system comes with 8GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage by default, but these can both be upgraded. It also has premium speakers and weighs less than 4 pounds.

As for negatives, some people find that the Lenovo is still a little heavy for what it is; there are other 2-in-1 laptops that are closer to 3 pounds. Because the Flex is trying to be both a laptop and a tablet, it’s heavier than a tablet and not as versatile as a laptop. Some find that the screen is a little too dim for their taste, especially compared to brighter Retina displays.

4. Acer Aspire

Acer Aspire Slim Laptop | 15.6" Full HD
$399.99

Acer Aspire delivers desktop-class performance and amazing battery life in a slim notebook. With Precision Boost, get up to 3.5GHz for your high-demand applications.

10/15/2021 05:54 pm GMT
  • Pros: An all-around solid, all-in-one device, with a fast processor and 15.6-inch HD display.
  • Cons: A little heavy, no biometric sensor or fingerprint reader.
  • Best For: Those who want something for mostly in-office and home use and some on-the-go use.

The Acer Aspire is a classic, well-regarded, all-around laptop. If you don’t need tablet functionality, the Acer Aspire is a great in-office and out-of-office laptop. A Windows 10 laptop, the Acer Aspire comes with a 15.6-inch display – perfect for those who do a lot of media editing, video viewing, or photography. Of the laptops on this list, this is one of the laptops that has the biggest screen.

Processing-wise, the Acer Aspire is powerful, with a 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7 processor. It has a full terabyte of storage, making it one of the best laptops for real estate agents who save a lot of photos and videos on their computers. There’s no fingerprint sensor or biometrics on this device, though, which might make people wary if they keep a lot of confidential documents on their computers.

The Aspire is more of a “desktop laptop” than it is an on-the-go laptop, but it’s still pretty portable despite its size. In fact, even though it has a 15.6-inch display, it weighs in at only a little over four pounds, which is comparable to even some smaller 14-inch laptops. There’s also the Acer Aspire slim in a smaller format.

While there isn’t any particular “Wow” factor to the Aspire, it’s known for being a great, standard laptop for those who aren’t interested in any unusual features, and just want a machine that they can call reliable.

5. Apple MacBook Air

2020 Apple MacBook Air Laptop: 13” Retina Display
$999.00

The Apple Macbook air features an Apple-designed M1 chip for a giant leap in CPU, GPU, and machine learning performance. Go longer than ever with up to 18 hours of battery life, and an 8-core CPU delivers up to 3.5x faster performance to tackle projects faster than ever.

10/15/2021 05:54 pm GMT
  • Pros: Attractive retina display, fast processor, biometrics, an excellent camera, and a lightweight form factor.
  • Cons: A little expensive, not suitable for those who want a Windows device.
  • Best For: Those who are going to be doing a lot of out-of-office work and want a highly portable device.

There are few devices as flashy as the Apple MacBook Air. And it’s not as expensive as one might think; in the past, MacBooks tended to be on the “very” expensive side of the spectrum. The Apple MacBook Air is the thinnest, lightest MacBook that Apple has produced yet. It has an 8-core lightning-fast processor, an 8-core GPU, and up to 18 hours of battery life. Altogether, that makes it a great all-around machine.

The only downside to the Apple MacBook Air is that it doesn’t have the tablet form factor of a 2-in-1 laptop. Other than that, the Apple MacBook Air has a lot going for it: it has 2 TB of storage, a 13-inch Retina display, an excellent camera, a touch screen, and biometric features such as a fingerprint scanner. Its weight is only 2.8 pounds and it’s so thin it’s barely there.

There are some disadvantages. It is still more expensive than a low-range or mid-range laptop. It’s not very easy to upgrade your Apple MacBook Air, so you’re stuck with the specs that the device ships with. More difficult is the fact that you will be limited to anything on Mac OS; you won’t be able to run applications that are designed for Windows 10. And some find the graphics card underwhelming for such an otherwise powerful device.

Still, if you’re in love with the Apple ecosystem, the MacBook Air could be a good choice for one of the best laptops for real estate agents. If you have an iPhone, having an Apple tablet or laptop will also be more convenient because everything can work together.

6. Asus C201 Chromebook

ASUS C201 11.6 Inch Chromebook
$58.99

The all-new ASUS Chromebook C201 starts in a flash and loads lightning fast as you cruise through your to-do list or favorite video streaming site with up to 13 hours of battery life.

10/15/2021 05:54 pm GMT
  • Pros: Extremely affordable, lightweight, and easy to use.
  • Cons: Only works when there’s WiFi or cell signal, and it’s pretty underpowered.
  • Best For: Those who already have another device, but need a rugged device for on the road.

If you want something lightweight, affordable, and easy, you want the ASUS C201. The C201 is an 11.6 inch Chromebook that can be had for under a few hundred dollars. It’s very easy to carry just about anywhere, it can last for 13 hours on a single charge, and it can run pretty much anything Chrome can run. If you frequently find yourself working in Google Docs and Google Sheets, the Asus C201 Chromebook is a fantastic entry-level machine.

But it does have some of the traditional disadvantages of a Chromebook. Chromebooks run the Chrome OS, not Windows or Mac OSx. Because of this, they only run web-based applications and they only work when you’re online. If you’re always in range of WiFi, if you have an easy phone hotspot, or if you can connect it to cellular service, that’s no big deal. But if you are frequently out of signal, you’re not going to want a Chromebook. As with most Chromebooks, it has an SSD.

That being said, many real estate professionals might want to consider the C201 as a secondary device. If you already have a great desktop or a great tablet, an Asus C201 Chromebook could be the perfect “throw around” device to take on-site or to use to jot off quick notes. Chromebooks are powerful for what they are made to do; they can be deployed very quickly for simple tasks, documents, and file editing. Applications supported by the C201 include Google Hangouts, Google Play Music, Gmail, Google Maps, Google Play Movies, Google Photos, Google Drive, Google Docs, and Google Sheets.

7. Matebook X Pro

HUAWEI Matebook X Pro 2020 - HUAWEI Global
$1,517.00

With the remarkable 91% screen-to-body ratio1, the 3K FullView Display gives you a massive view in vivid details. Its 3:2 aspect ratio is perfect for reading and writing. And, the 100% sRGB2 wide colour gamut makes the images and videos more vibrant and realistic.

  • Pros: Fast, extensible, and attractive, with a battery power of up to 11 hours, and powerful enough to be used as a video editing laptop.
  • Cons: Heavy and hot for those who want a truly portable laptop.
  • Best For: Those who want a full desktop, laptop, and tablet replacement in a single form factor.

The Huawei Matebook X Pro has a 13.9 inch “full view” screen, which goes to the borders of the device. The screen is almost the entirety of the device’s form factor, making it one of the best laptops for real estate agents who want a video editing and photo editing powerhouse. The device features a touchscreen, which also makes it easier to interact with. It comes in two colors: Emerald Green and Space Grey. Both have an attractive, lightweight, metal matte finish, and a backlit keyboard.

This notebook computer is very light and thin, making it great for being on the go. It also has an impressive appearance, which can’t hurt when impressing clients. Specs include an 11th generation Intel Core i7 processor, 16 GB RAM, and 1 TB SSD storage. SSD storage is great: it means that your computer will load up practically as quickly as you press the power button.

When it comes to battery power, the Matebook X Pro reports anywhere from 10 to 11 hours of battery. It has great speakers, making it an excellent multimedia machine. It also has a fingertip/biometric key, so you can unlock it with a tap. A special feature is that the camera for the Matebook X Pro is hidden inside the keyboard itself and only pops up when you want to use it, providing better privacy.

There are a few issues with the Matebook X Pro that you might want to take into consideration. Because it’s such a powerful and thin device, it also runs pretty hot. It’s a great mid-level computer, but it’s not going to run any AAA games, for real estate professionals who want a dual-purpose work and recreation machine. And some people frown upon the webcam’s placement; though it does make it more secure, it can be a little awkward in terms of aiming.

8. The Acer Spin

Acer Spin 5 Convertible Laptop, 13.5"
$945.97

The Acer Spin is super versatile, looks amazing and you can take it anywhere! At just 2.65 lbs., this sleek laptop with the cool magnesium-aluminum alloy design lets you work and play in style, while the 360° Dual-Torque Hinge provides four different modes for you to enjoy.

10/15/2021 05:54 pm GMT
  • Pros: A highly portable and light laptop that’s only 2.6 pounds, with fast WiFi and a beautiful IPS HD display.
  • Cons: It can run pretty hot, and its beautiful IPS display has thick bezels.
  • Best For: Those who want a multimedia and entertainment machine they can take anywhere.

The Acer Spin (most recently the Acer Spin 5) is a thin, lightweight Windows 10 2-in-1 laptop. At only 2.6 pounds, it’s one of the lightest laptops on this list. It gives you the best of both worlds, laptop and tablet. It has a 13.5 inch IPS display screen that runs a fantastic 2256 x 1504 resolution; you’ll have crystal clear images and videos on this device. That makes it a good replacement for a tablet, too.

A special, anti-microbial agent on the keyboard is designed to make the system more sanitary and is a feature that the Acer Spin has that many other systems don’t. There’s also a fingerprint reader on this machine for biometric identification. It features an 11th generation Intel processor, Iris Xe graphics, and a 1 terabyte SSD. It also has fast WiFi 6 options, Type-C ports, and the ability to support two more 4K displays for presentations.

With the Acer Active Stylus, Realtors can use the Acer with a stylus pen-style as well as using a keyboard. This helps jot down quick notes, edit photographs quickly, and otherwise manipulate the tablet with ease. Other features include the dual front-facing speakers, embedded fingerprint reader, Wake-on-Voice functionality, and Microsoft’s Cortana. The only real negatives to the Acer Spin are that it can run a little hot because of its power and it does have relatively thick bezels on its screen.

9. The Dell XPS

Dell XPS 13 13.4 inch
$1,670.92

The Dell XPS 13 has a13.4-inch FHD (Full HD 1920 x 1200) InfinityEdge Touch Anti-Reflective 500-Nit Display. It also has an 11th Generation Intel Core i7-1185G7 Processor (12MB Cache, up to 4.8 GHz),16GB 4267MHz LPDDR4x , 512 GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD, and Intel Iris Xe Graphics with shared graphics memory.

10/15/2021 05:54 pm GMT
  • Pros: Fully customizable, great default specs, attractive HD display, and battery life of up to 12 hours.
  • Cons: An awkwardly positioned webcam and bad mic make it bad for video conferencing.
  • Best For: Those who know exactly what system specs they want.

The Dell XPS 13 is a bit of a special product. It’s one of the flagship Dell laptops and it’s one of their smallest form factors yet. But because it’s a flagship laptop, it’s also extremely easily customized. That means that the specs are what you make of it.

For power, you can choose from anywhere between the Intel Core i3 (4.1 GHz) and an Intel Core i7 (4.8 GHz). You can choose between 8GB RAM, 16GB, and even 32GB memory. You can have a 256 hard drive or a 2 TB SSD. But you’ll always have the 13.4” screen and backlit keyboard. You can choose between Intel UHD and FHD screens. Meanwhile, an SSD is great because it makes programs run faster and makes it easier to access your files.

For a non-touch display, the device weighs 2.64 pounds; it’s a lightweight, portable machine. If you want a touch display, that’s going to go up to 2.8 pounds, which is still fairly light.

The ability to customize the Dell XPS is where it really shines as one of the best laptops for real estate agents because you can get exactly what you want in a device. Whether you want more processing power, more memory, or more hard drive space, you can get it. But that also means that the Dell XPS is as good as you make it.

There are some reported issues with the Dell XPS that may not be able to be customized out. It boasts excellent battery life at 12 hours, but if you really trick it out with bells and whistles it’s not going to last that long. It has an awkward webcam position and a bad mic, so it’s not great for video conferencing. You also can’t toss in an Nvidia GeForce; the graphics card options are limited. Otherwise, it’s an all-around beast of a machine.

10. MacBook Pro

2020 Apple MacBook Pro with Apple M1 Chip
$1,179.00

The Apple MacBook Pro has an Apple-designed M1 chip for a giant leap in CPU, GPU, and machine learning performance. Get more done with up to 20 hours of battery life, the longest ever in a Mac. Also, it features an 8-core CPU delivers up to 2.8x faster performance to fly through workflows quicker than ever.

10/15/2021 05:51 pm GMT
  • Pros: A very robust, powerful system that has virtually everything someone might need.
  • Cons: Extremely expensive for what it is, some may not want to deal with Mac OSx.
  • Best For: Those who want to completely replace their desktop, laptop, and tablet solutions.

Apple’s premier professional laptop, the MacBook Pro, is one of the best laptops for real estate agents. It comes in a 13 inch and 16-inch form factor. The 16-inch MacBook Pro is one of the largest screens you can get in a device that is still less than 4.5 pounds. Of course, the ultimate 16” MacBook Pro is also one of the most expensive devices you can get: you can purchase a mid-level laptop and tablet for the same price.

The 13 inch MacBook Pro has up to 16GB memory, up to 2TB of hard drive space, and up to an incredible 20 hours of battery life. The 16-inch MacBook Pro has up to 64GB memory, up to 8TB of hard drive space, and up to 11 hours of battery life. Other features include the backlit magic keyboard, touch bar, Touch ID, and force touch trackpad. Prior versions didn’t have an HDMI port, but it does now.

Put simply, the MacBook Pro is a powerhouse of a machine; it can be used for just about anything. But you’ll pay for it; it’s one of the more expensive options on this list. Those who are more familiar with the Windows 10 ecosystem will be thrown off by the MacBook Pro because it’s an entirely different operating system. But it should be considered that even the staples such as Office 365 can be run on the MacBook Pro.

Few people will want or need the power that the 16 inch MacBook Pro represents, but it can be used for practically anything, including intensive video editing. Some users find that the MacBook Pro operating system is sluggish and cumbersome to use – and a comparable laptop in the MacBook Pro price range is likely to have better specs, even if it doesn’t have as sleek and lightweight of a form factor.

Frequestly Asked Questions

What laptops should real estate agents avoid?

Gaming or entertainment laptops are not the best laptops for real estate agents. They tend to be heavy, bulky, and with low battery life. While they may be great for a gaming system, a lot of power is taken up by a heavy-duty video card that you’re not going to need. At the other end of the spectrum, lightweight “Chromebooks” or “Netbooks” usually aren’t going to have either the processing power or memory that a real estate agent wants – and they’re going to require an always-on WiFi signal, which isn’t always realistic, especially when dealing with rural listings. That being said, some Chromebooks (such as the C201) make excellent “secondary devices,” especially for those who already have a desktop at home.

What’s the difference between processing power, memory, and hard drive space?

Think of processing power as the ability to think quickly, memory as the ability to retain short-term memory, and hard drive space as the ability to retain long-term memory. When you run a program, the speed at which it runs is controlled by both processing power and memory. When you save files, the number of files you can save relates to the hard drive. Many real estate agents are going to need decent power, memory, and hard drive space. Apart from this, you’ll also need decent battery life — or to bring a battery backup.

A row of laptops

Do you need an SSD?

An SSD is a solid-state drive. SSDs make files load faster, the operating system runs faster, and programs operate more smoothly. At the same time, an SSD may also break down faster than a traditional drive. An SSD is also usually smaller in capacity than a regular hard drive and more expensive, so you get what you pay for. You generally don’t “need” an SSD, but if power and speed are important for you, an SSD can help.

Should a real estate agent have a Mac or a PC?

Both Macs and PCs are great for real estate agents. Macs have more onboard utilities for file editing, such as video editing and photo editing; this makes it ideal for those who manage their own home staging, photography, and videos. PCs tend to be a little more affordable and more flexible, and there are still some great multimedia software systems available. Today, the difference between a Mac and a PC is far less pronounced than it has been in the past; most utilities are available for either. So, you can choose whichever is most comfortable for you.

Is a tablet sufficient or should you have a laptop?

Tablets such as the Apple iPad Pro can be extremely powerful – even more powerful than some of the best laptops for real estate agents. But the format is different. Rather than clicking, you’ll find yourself tapping and swiping. You will need to dock into a keyboard if you want to type with ease. It depends on how you use your device. Some Realtors get by with a tablet alone, others really need a laptop to feel like they can function.

Should a real estate agent have biometric identification?

Many modern tablets and laptops come with a fingerprint scanner. It’s not essential, but it can be nice. Real estate agents have a significant amount of personal information on their computers, including financial information from their clients, their own financial information, and personally identifiable information. Biometric identification protects you in the event that your device itself is stolen.
