7 Amazing & Affordable 360 Cameras For Real Estate In 2022

If you’re a real estate professional in 2021, you’ve likely seen how popular virtual tours have become. In order to make one, you’ll need a real estate 360 camera.

People can take a look at a photo, but they don’t really get a sense of a property and its floor plan. For this reason, a virtual real estate tour is a great way to get them to feel as though they are really in the space. They can become attached to a property even before they’ve actually seen it.

But creating a virtual tour requires more than just a DSLR and a photo-stitching app. While you can create a panorama with nearly any camera, a 3D image requires that you have a special type of camera and sensor. Let’s take a look at some of the most popular options for 360 video and photography.

7 Real Estate 360 Camera Options

Matterport Pro2 3D Camera for Professional Digital Twin Capture

Matterport Pro 2 is the standard for professional 3D capture and digital twin creation. Great for scanning spaces of any size. Perfect for homes, apartments, hotels, commercial buildings, and more. The Matterport Pro2 features high-quality 3D capture, 99% accuracy within range. Professional photo resolution (134.2 megapixels). Unlimited 4K print quality photography.

7. Matterport Camera

Best for: A real estate photographer who wants some support and an industry-specific real estate marketing solution.

The Matterport Camera is a solution that’s designed specifically for real estate. Most 360 degree camera sets are multi-purpose, but the Matterport camera system is tailored to the real estate business. To purchase, you sign up not only for the camera but also the service.

With Matterport, you can create a full 360 degree tour, known as the Matterport tour. The support provided by Matterport means that you can hit the ground running rather than having to figure out how to make a 360 tour all on your own. But there are downsides: It’s an expensive service and it requires a subscription.

Insta360 ONE X2 360 Degree Waterproof Action Camera

Insta360 ONE X2 is a professional 360 degree waterproof 4K action camera. It can shoot first in every direction with super 5.7K 360 capture and then choose your favorite angle later. Or pick just one lens with Steady Cam mode for ultra-stable wide-angle footage. The Insta360 ONE X2 also supports live streaming, slow-motion video recording, time-lapse shooting, and more.

6. Insta360 ONE X

Best for: A real estate photographer who wants an entry-level system to create 360 camera photographs and videos.

The Insta360 ONE X is actually designed for those real estate agents who are on the move. It includes features such as 5.7K video, FlowState stabilization, 360 capture, cinematic slow-mo, invisible selfie-stick, timeshift, and more.

In terms of real estate photography, the Insta360 ONE X probably has more features than the traditional real estate agent needs. But it’s also available at a decent price, making it a great solution for a solo agent who wants to build tours.

GoPro MAX 360 Waterproof Action Camera with Cleaning Set + 64GB Memory Card

This is a very unique camera that can shoot 360° photos and videos. It’s perfect for those who love to capture everything around them in every direction, and it’s also great for sharing your photos with friends and family online.

5. GoPro Max Action 360

Best for: A real estate photographer who wants a resilient, easy-to-use camera with long battery life.

The GoPro Max Action 360 has a much longer battery life than many of the other options on the market. It can last for 85 minutes, which means that a real estate professional can take more pictures for longer without having to pause to charge the camera.

With the GoPro Max Action 360, you can convert video 360 clips into solid footage, stabilize that footage, and create real estate videos that include movement. It also has a 16-megapixel camera for high-quality images.

Unfortunately, the GoPro Max Action 360 doesn’t come with its own video editing software, so you will need to use a software program like Adobe Lightroom.

Vuze XR 3D VR & 360 Camera

With the touch of a button, the Vuze XR goes from a 360 camera to VR 180°, giving you unique ways to explore more -- and tell your story bigger and better. Change the perspective and adjust it to your audience.

4. Vuze XR

Best for: The real estate photographer who wants a decent-quality DSLR camera that can produce a basic VR tour.

Vuze XR is an entry-level camera that has an 18 megapixels sensor resolution and produces high-definition dual 3D and 2D 360 video. Its VR camera can be used to create virtual reality tours, including those that can be viewed on a VR headset.

While the Vuze XR is a great entry-level camera, it does have some pros and cons. The Vuze XR smartphone app could use some work, it doesn’t have great battery life, and it can be a little difficult to use — the physical buttons can be difficult to push. But as a 3D camera, it has a high resolution, a great lens, and a decent sensor.

KANDAO QooCam 8K Enterprise with HDMI Full View Camera

This all-new Gear 360 is the smartest, most connected camera in its class. With 4K video and 15MP still images, it’s the perfect way to capture your world in lifelike detail. And with an array of new features—including live streaming, auto uploads to Facebook and YouTube, and a built-in speaker and microphone for two-way audio—your content will be more engaging than ever before. The next generation of storytelling is here; it’s time for you to start living in 360°.

3. Kandao QooCam

Best for: The real estate photographer who wants to produce high-quality streaming tours and 3D virtual tours.

The Kandao QooCam features a powerful 1/1.7 inch sensor with the ability to record 8K footage at 120 FPS. Not only can you produce streaming tours and 3D virtual tours, but you can also provide high-quality still photographs.

There’s also a manual shooting mode that you can use to customize the photographs you take, without having to photoshop them later.

But there are some downsides. It’s an expensive option and only lasts about 45 minutes during a shoot.

RICOH Theta Z1 51GB Black 360° Camera

The RICOH theta Z1 is a 360 degree camera that can capture photographs and videos at up to 8K resolution. The camera features dual lenses, one on each side of the body, which allows for seamless panoramic images without any stitching required. It also comes equipped with a tripod mount and an auto-calibration function that will ensure your photos are straightened out before you begin shooting. This makes it easy to share your images on social media platforms like Facebook or Instagram.

2. Ricoh Theta Z1

Best for: The real estate photographer who really wants the best-of-the-best.

The Ricoh Theta Z1 comes with two powerful 1-inch sensors. It can produce high-quality 360 photos perfect for a 3D virtual tour, making it one of the most popular virtual tour cameras available. Other features include auto HDR (bright colors, high contrast) and a Lightroom plug-in.

But it’s not for the faint of heart. While it will produce a beautiful real estate virtual tour, it’s also more expensive than many other 360 camera options. There are entry-level versions of the Ricoh Theta that will come in at several hundred dollars, like the Ricoh Theta V and the Ricoh Theta SC2, but the Ricoh Theta Z1 is slightly over a thousand.

Samsung Gear 360 (2017 Edition) Real 360° 4K VR Camera

The all-new Gear 360 is the smartest, most connected camera in its class.

1. Samsung Gear 360

Best for: A real estate photographer who wants excellent image quality along with superb battery life — up to 130 minutes.

Samsung’s flagship 360 camera, the Samsung Gear 360, is built for high-resolution, highly active imagery. It provides high-resolution, 4K 360 video. Other features include the ability to go live (producing live videos for your real estate social media pages) and control the type of view: 360, stretched, found, dual, and panoramic.

While the Samsung Gear 360 isn’t designed around real estate specifically, it’s one of the best 3D cameras out there. It’s especially useful for capturing live video and video feeds that include movement. An “adventure camera,” it’s been designed around sports and travel. Because of that, it also supports battery life of up to 130 minutes and expandable memory up to 256 MB.

Choosing the Right 360 Degree Camera

360 degree cameras are relatively new. Because of this, they have very different specifications. When you’re choosing 360 degree cameras, you may get confused by the fact that they’re all very different. Here are a few of the aspects that you might want to look for.

Software. Some 360 cameras come with their own software solutions, while others rely on professional software like Lightroom. If you’ve never done video editing or photo editing before, you may want a camera that comes with its own software solution.

  • Resolution. Capturing 3D imagery is hard. To compensate, some cameras don’t have very high resolution. But if you’re capturing real estate photos, you know that quality is everything. Look for a camera that has at least 14 megapixels and HDR.
  • Video features. Not only may you want a 360 degree tour, but you might want the ability to port it into a virtual reality headset or share it online through social media. Some cameras have live streaming functionality that can make it easier to build a social media following.
  • Battery life. Depending on how many listings you usually work with, battery life may or may not be important for you. Many 360 cameras have fairly limited battery life, lasting less than an hour. But some, such as the Samsung Gear, have a battery life of up to a couple of hours.

Even a basic 360 degree camera should be good enough to produce photographs and videos for professional, polished real estate listings. Many 360 degree cameras are built around snowboarding, skiing, mountain climbing, and other outdoor activities — which means they’re very good at capturing high-quality 360 degree imagery very fast.

FAQs On Real Estate 360 Camera

What accessories do you need to capture a 3D tour?

For the purposes of real estate photography, you should usually have a tripod as well as a remote “clicker” to take photos while you’re out of the room. A 360deg camera will usually come with at least these peripherals when you purchase the kit.

How is a 3D virtual tour made?

A 360o camera captures multiple images. From there, those images have to actually be composed into a 3D virtual tour using a software platform. A virtual tour camera will come with basic software, but you may need to learn a solution like Lightroom to perform more advanced editing.

Are 3D virtual reality tours necessary?

3D tours and virtual reality tours are imminently shareable on social media. They are a great way for real estate professionals to build a following and build interest — and they’re also a good way to sell properties when people can’t otherwise view them in real life.
